Is it necessary to have a medical referral?
No. If you are attending for the spa facilities
you will only be required to sign a "Release from Liability" or
disclaimer form, and also complete a Client Health Questionnaire if
you are having a massage.
However, if you want to consult with one of our specialists or other
health professionals, a referral is usually required.
Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes - you should make an appointment for either the spa or for medical
consultation. If you want an appointment with one of our specialists
this should be made 6 - 8 weeks in advance if possible.
Is it necessary to bring towels?
Towels are provided. You may like to bring your own wrap and swimsuit
that is required for the pool exercise session.
When should I arrive for my spa treatment?
You should arrive about 10 minutes before your allocated appointment
- this allows time for checking in and completing any necessary
documentation. It also allows time for you to "unwind"
to gain full benefit from your treatment session.
What if I have special health considerations?
We have a health questionnaire for you to complete prior to massage
and we have health professional staff to consult with should the
need arise.
Is there someone to help me decide on
the best treatment?
Yes. You can discuss your options with one of our support staff
or if you have a particular concern, with one of the therapists.
What if I'm late for my appointment?
Either your treatment time will be reduced (which means that you
do not gain as much benefit for the session) or we will re-schedule
for another time that may be on another day. You may be charged
a percentage of the full treatment cost.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
Please contact us as soon as possible so that we can reallocate
the time to another client.
Is there anywhere for me to rest following
my spa treatment?
Yes. Following massage and mud treatments we have beds where you
can rest. We believe this is part of the therapeutic recovery time
and allows you to gain maximum benefit from treatment.
Can I pay by Credit Card?
Yes. We accept Eftpos, Visa, American Express or cash as payment.
Will I have a male/female therapist?
You may choose if you prefer a male or female therapist.
Massage:
What do I wear?
While some people prefer to wear underwear, it is usual, particularly
with the Aix/water massage to simply have a towel or sarong wrapped
around your body. We will provide these.
Will my Privacy be assured?
Yes. Our therapists are familiar with using the "towel technique"
exposing only the area to be massaged.
Will it hurt?
Massage is a very pleasurable experience but if
you are already in pain deep massage is very beneficial. If you feel
discomfort communicate it to your therapist.
Will it help my stress levels?
Massage is one of the
best forms of stress release.
What is the difference between a half
hour and an hour session?
In the half hour session common problem areas such as the back and
legs are often worked. In the one-hour session the full body is
massaged.
Can all ages be massaged?
Yes - all ages respond well to massage.
What would be the
approximate timings for say a group of eight people to have
therapies? It would depend on which therapies they were
having but
you should allow for up to two hours.
Is there a
certain order in which to have therapies? Ideally it is
better to have a soak in the
Rachel Pool or a Mudbath before a massage.
Is it possible to
have a soak in the Rachel Pool or a Mudbath followed by an
AIX massage? No, that would be too many hot treatments
on
your body in a short space of time.
What are the benefits of massage?
- Relaxation/stress release
- Improves flexibility in muscles
and joints
- Reduces pain
- Removes toxins or wastes from the
body
- Increases circulation
- Improves lymphatic drainage

Extracted from Glover RB, 1967 :
The Chemistry of Thermal Waters at Rotorua (NZ Journ Sci
10:70-96).
The
Rachel Pool produces alkaline water with high chloride content
similar to that discharged by the drilled wells in the town,
including those at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. These waters
characteristically have chloride content and relatively low
S04 (sulphate).
