QE Health is actively involved in providing health services to the people of Rotorua and surrounding regions.

About Us

QE Health has an established history and sound reputation in clinical trials, epidemiological and basic research. Studies have been carried out at the hospital since the 1950s. Initially these were independent research projects intiated by the consultant rheumatologists who had published works on subjects such as (for example); Rheumatoid Arthritis and an Epidemiological report on the incidences of smoking and gout in NZ European and Maori populations.

However it was not until the 1990s that a dedicated research facility was established particularly with the arrival of Dr Peter Jones as a consultant rheumatologist to what was then Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The research facility at QE Health has completed numerous Phase II, III and IV clinical trials in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, gout and osteoporosis.

While these previous studies are rheumatology based, QE Health Research is now broadening the scope of its clinical trial services to include other medical conditions for Phase II, III and IV studies.

Pat McKenna is the Research Study Coordinator at QE Health. Her meticulous attention to detail and professional approach has contributed to the success of recruitment and study process. Pat is a qualified medical laboratory scientist. With 30 years experience in the health service Pat's clinical trial experience includes studies on rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and osteoporosis.

Dr John Petrie, a consultant rheumatologist at QE Health with a post-graduate diploma in sports medicine, has previous experience in research and is available as principal investigator for rheumatology and rehabiliation studies.

Prudence Paterson, registered nurse and an experienced study coordinator at QE Health.

Our Facilities
